Because we set our standards so high, 2014 was not our best year at West View Kennels.
But looking back it wasn't all bad and we still won some big races on the open race scene and we had a great year at Monmore Green with the graded dogs.
We left Monmore leading the race for champion trainer there, but left before the year ended, fair play to Paul Sallis who took the title again.

Cape Impact was the star us in 2014 winning 11 opens all over the country and was 3rd in the Sunderland Festival sprint, which we won the year before with
the awesome Drumcove lad.

The stand out performance in 2014 was Exocet in the final of the Sussex Cup at Hove, he led all the way and held off the strong challenge of Paul Young's Bubbly Gold, winning by just over a length in 29.55.Roly Woodcock's dog was a joy to train and probably the best dog I have ever put a lead on.
With his blistering early pace, stamina and his will to win, Exocet had it all.

Paul Scott's Cluxtons Free came back from a serious injury and had to have surgery, but the Monmore Puppy Derby hero of 2013 bounced back in 2014 and won many races, including two on Sky Sports showing his blistering early pace, winning in some great times, 16.01 at Sheffield and 16.09 at Hove.

On Derby Final night at Wimbledon the three we sent out ran fantastic, with Daddy Knowsbest winning the Veterans race and Old Refrain won a race I have always wanted to win, when she struck gold in the Dorando Marathon, Cluxtons Free ran a brave second to Skate On in the sprint.

Old Refrain was one of the marathon stars of 2014, winning many races on sky sports and finished 3rd in the TV Trophy at Sheffield, she won 5 from 14 starts and sadly went lame in her last race at Romford when favourite to land the 750 final live on sky.

Express Lodge a cheap dog off the website give his new owners a great night when landing heat and final at Monmore Green in the 416 festival final in 24.49,live on Sky Sports.

Chevy Blazer owned by David Torjusson had a great 2014 and went un beaten going into the summer classic final at Monmore, but sadly she missed the break in the final, which was won by Airport Captain.

Kieth Warner had a mixed year in 2014, with Express Master winning the first round of the Derby, he then went flat on us, later in the year he hit top form again and helped Monmore Green to reach the Bags inter track final.
Master produced some sparkling performances at Perry Barr and Hall Green. He then went on to win at Nottingham on finals day, this took his tally of wins to 3 from 3 and 100% in the competition. The big day came to dramatic end when Monmore just missed out by one point in.

Another fantastic year for the kennel, winning some big races once again, safely finishing in the all important top six in the country.
Eventually after a terrific four way battle with Mark Wallis, Charlie Lister and Paul Young we ran out of dogs and luck when Exocet was 3rd in the
Eclipse Final at Nottingham, after that we knew we could not win the title, so we decided to go to Ireland with our best dogs.
Exocet obliged by winning the NIGHT OF THE STARS 575 and Cluxtons Free ran a brave 2nd in the sprint. This was a very proud moment for the kennel as it was the first ever
British trained dog to win on this big night of racing.

Our main aim each year is to win the Monmore Puppy Derby, after many years of trying and runner up with Express Shuttle, we finally won it this year with Cluxtons Free and
home reared Strategic Review was only 1/2 length behind in 2nd.
Overall we probably had our best ever year finishes 4th in the country with 809 points, winning 162 open races and earning £84,655.00 not forgetting the 10,000 euros in Ireland.
When winning the title in 2011 we reached 887 points, 164 wins and £89,405.00 in prize money, but back then there was far more races to go for, so personally i think in 2013 we over achieved again and had a real good go at the winning the title, but sadly just fell short.

We won four Category one races, six Category two's and seven Category three finals in 2013, my biggest mistake in 2013 was letting my graded strength fall mainly down to injury, for many many weeks we went below 20 dogs available at Monmore, which led to us having many Monday and Friday bags races with no runners. This lack of numbers is the reason Paul Sallis just snatched the title away from me for what would have been the eighth year running. Paul has become the only trainer ever to beat me at Monmore Green, tn was that close it come down to the last meeting of the year.
Fair play to Paul though, he is a very good trainer and had a great year at Monmore, but Mr Sallis a warning......I WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!

I would like to congratulate Mark Wallis who is a true gentleman on winning the title once again, the man come back from the dead and went out to 16/1 at one stage after being as short as 2/7 to land the 2013 trainers championship title. Mark had an unbelievable last few months of the year and eventually won quite comfortably with Charlie back in second.
Paul Young had a great year also back in 3rd, winning many Category 2&3 Finals, making loads of Category 1 finals and the Derby, but strangely never won a Category 1 all year, if he had a bit of luck in some Cat 1 finals I have no doubt with his fire power and his huge kennel Paul would have won the title, fair play to Mark though as he dug in and his dogs did him proud.

Charlie had another terrific year landing many big races and another Derby Final with Sidaz Jack, the boys from Leicester had a great year also with Farloe Tango taking staying racing to another level, with some outrageous displays of pace and staying power, he made some great dogs look average, and his St Ledger victory was the best i've ever seen!
